1.  Nurturing Pathways Series at the Y

Nurturing Pathways is a complete music and movement program for children aged birth to three years, grounded in current brain research and executed with best teaching practices!  Sessions run for 5 weeks; enrollment is welcome at any time during the session.  All classes are held at the West Seattle Family YMCA and the Fauntleroy YMCA.  For more information about fees, schedules, and the program, go to http://www.pepswestseattle.org/npflier.pdf.

2.  Campfire Programs

Campfire program curriculum starts at age 3 and is aligned with educational standards to help your child become school-ready.  Campfire strives to keep programs low-cost, or cost-free, and constantly tries to keep families actively involved.  Campfire offers the traditional small-group program as well as a newer program called Community Family Club that encourages entire families to gather together to participate in family strengthening activities and have fun!

For more information, contact Janelle at 206 461 8550, ext. 310 or janelle-k@campfire-usa.org.

3.  Community Voices on Human Rights

Come and share your experiences, ideas and opinions on human rights at a public forum in your neighborhood as the Seattle Human Rights Commission examines the state of human rights (the right to education, health care and economic, social, and personal security) in the City of Seattle.  Co-sponsored by the City of Seattle.  Refreshments and childcare are available.  For more information, contact Marta Idowu at 206-684-4540 & marta.idowu@seattle.gov or Angela Tarah at 206-850-6110 & angelatarah@cablespeed.com

5.  Talaris Research Institute Newsletters

As a parent, what does research in the brain science and early childhood development mean to you? Science helps us understand how babies think, feel and learn, but how do you apply that research in your every day life?  Talaris offers “Research Spotlights” to  help. Leading research studies on social and emotional development have been gathered and merged into easy-to-read and interesting summaries. Learn about the amazing capabilities of babies and children through age 5 and learn how vital your role is as a parent.  There are also newsletters geared toward child professionals and relevant activities in Washington State.  Click here to learn more and sign up:  http://www.talaris.org/synopsis.htm

6.  Zoomazium at Woodland Park Zoo Now Open!

Woodland Park Zoo's Zoomazium opened May 19, and it's packed with fresh and fun ways that kids can learn about the natural world while climbing, crawling, and squeezing into small spaces.  Activities are geared to the 8-and-under set, although older children will probably enjoy checking things out.

Zoomazium is located near the zoo's West Entrance at North 55th Street and Phinney Avenue North in Seattle.  Hours are 10am-5pm through October 14, and 10am-4pm from October 15 - March 14.  Entry is free with zoo admission (adults $10.50, children 3-12 $7.50).  Find out more at www.zoo.org/zoomazium, or call 206-684-4800.
