1.  PEPS Needs Volunteer Group Leaders in West Seattle

PEPS needs volunteer group leaders for both day and evening groups in West Seattle.  This is a wonderful way to “give back” to PEPS and meet new friends in West Seattle.  PEPS provides training, and co-leading a group with your partner or friend is OK, too!  The next training session is scheduled for Wednesday July 26 from 5:30-9:30pm.  For more information, please contact Paige at paigek@pepsgroup.org or 547-8570, ext. 15.

2.  Kids Fun Fest @ Hiawatha Community Center

Hours of fun featuring carnival games, refreshments, dunk tank, children’s entertainment, face painting & more. Previous year’s events featured appearances by the Seattle Fire Department, the Seafair Pirates and West Seattle Hi Yu Court. Co-Sponsored by Husky Deli & West Seattle Hi-Yu.  For ages 5-11.  Free!

Friday July 14

12 noon - 3 p.m.

3.  West Seattle Summer Fest

Formerly referred to as “the Street Fair”, this year’s event promises to be better than ever with an improved kid play area, the Family Fun Zone, including a climbing wall, dinosaurs, and a giant 36-foot long crocodile!  Also, an Animal Education Area sponsored by Next to Nature helps kids (and adults) learn about the wonderful efforts of local animal support groups, as well as the End Zone, featuring professional skateboarding demos.  The usual food, music, and arts & crafts booths will all be on hand for a great weekend!  For more info:  http://www.westseattlefestival.com/index.html

Friday – Sunday July 14-16

4.  West Seattle Sportmans’ Club Kids Fishing Derby

Fishing and festivities at Seacrest Marina begin at 8am and go to 11am when prizes are awarded!  Everyone is welcome at this annual event to fish in the trout pond - poles are provided.  More experienced fishermen may want to attempt to fish off the pier; a limited number of poles for pier fishing will be available.  The Derby is open to all kids 12 and under with adult supervision … and it’s free!  (Donations to Hi-Yu or WS Sportsman’s Club are welcome.)

5.  West Seattle Parade

It’s a tradition!  The Rotary Club Kiddies Parade starts at 10am at Genesee & California, with the American Legion full-on parade beginning at 11am at Landers Street in the Admiral Junction, ending at Edmunds Street.

If we get at least 10 people to respond to this email, we will show up at the Kiddie Parade with the West Seattle PEPS banner and lots of balloons & candy!!!  Email now if you will come with your strollers, bikes or trikes and march with us:  amy@dalydonovan.com

6.  Westside Baby’s 5th Annual STUFF THE BUS!

Come help stuff the baby bus full of diapers at the West Seattle Farmers Market. This year’s challenge is to collect 8,000 disposable diapers … can you help us meet this goal?  This event keeps Westside Baby and its clients in diapers for at least two months!

If you’ll miss this event, consider holding a Diaper Drive at your school, business, church, PEPS group, or among a group of friends.  Diapers are the single-most important item needed by Westside Baby to support its clients, needy families in West Seattle and White Center.  Westside Baby makes it easy for you with a Diaper Drive Kit including posters, flyers, communication pieces and a handy tote bag.  Please contact info@westsidebaby.org or 206-767-1662.  For more information, visit www.westsidebaby.org.
